Replaces the selection programmatically (e.g. with a SelectionPresets value). The proposal is validated like clicks — mode constraints, bounds, and disabled dates — and violations leave the selection unchanged and fire the event callback. Setting Selection.Empty clears.

In SelectionMode.Week and SelectionMode.Month the proposal is snapped to the whole week or month containing its Selection.rangeStart (clamped to the bounds) before validation, so the selection is always a period a tap could produce; the proposal's Selection.rangeEnd is ignored.
